Momentum Over Perfection: Taking Aligned Action Toward Your Dreams

How often do we wait for the perfect moment to start? “I’ll begin when I’m ready, when I have more time, when everything feels flawless.”

Here’s the truth: that perfect moment rarely comes. Waiting keeps us safe — but it also keeps us stuck. The key isn’t perfection; it’s building momentum on the journey, showing up consistently for the life that aligns with your values and dharma.

I’ll take us back to one of my favorite quotes from the Bhagavad Gita: “It is better to live your own dharma imperfectly than to live someone else’s perfectly.”

Momentum isn’t about performing, rushing or forcing results. It’s about taking consistent, aligned action. Each small choice builds energy, clarity, and progress on your journey.

Showing Up Looks Different for Everyone

Momentum can take many forms:

  • Spending focused time on creative work, learning, or personal projects
  • Publishing a post, sharing a video, or taking another small action toward a personal or professional goal
  • Taking intentional breaks during your day to recharge and create mental space for focus and creativity
  • Practicing mindfulness, meditation, or journaling to gain clarity on what matters to you.

Each of these actions — whether publishing content, stepping away for a break, or journaling — supports the same principle: choosing momentum over perfection. These small, aligned actions compound over time into meaningful progress.

It’s about choosing an action that reflects your values and returning to it consistently, without letting perfectionism or others’ opinions hold you back.

Here’s the mindset shift that makes this sustainable for me: The Let Them Theory. Your responsibility is to yourself, not to others’ opinions. Let them judge, let them doubt, let them misunderstand. Your momentum comes from alignment, not approval.

How I Show Up on My Own Journey

Intentional Breaks: Time for Myself
I used to overwork myself, thinking nonstop productivity was the only way to get ahead. I believed if I just pushed harder, I’d achieve more in a limited time. That was impatience, not alignment — and it drained my energy, scattered my focus, and stalled momentum.

Inspired by Jasihree Nenwani’s Tiny Habits Massive Results, I now build short, intentional breaks into my day – stepping away from work, moving my body, or simply taking quiet moments for myself. These pauses recharge my energy, restore focus, and help me show up fully for the work and creative projects that matter.

A break can also include mindfulness meditation. I’ve tried meditation in the past, but it never stuck. My mind wandered, I judged myself, and life got busy. Now, I see meditation as an act of alignment, not just a task on a checklist, and that mindset shift has changed everything. Even a few minutes of mindful breathing allow me to notice my thoughts, reconnect to my values, and return to alignment.

Publishing Content: Momentum Over Perfection
Another way I show up for myself is through blogging. I used to endlessly edit posts or videos, waiting for perfection before sharing. That perfectionism paralyzed me. Now, I hit “publish” — trusting my work, letting go of what others might think, and focusing on the fact that consistent action builds momentum, skills, and confidence over time.

Other Aligned Actions
Momentum can also come from actions like:

  • Spending 30 minutes on a creative project
  • Journaling or reflecting to stay connected to values
  • Learning something new that moves you toward your goals

The key isn’t perfect execution — it’s intentional, aligned action. Small, repeated choices compound into clarity, focus, and energy that propel you forward.

Why Alignment Makes Momentum Feel Natural

When your actions reflect your values, staying consistent doesn’t feel forced. Alignment itself guides you back, so showing up regularly creates intrinsic motivation, energy, and focus, fueling the next step on your journey.

Momentum is about becoming the kind of person who shows up for your dreams and the life you want to build. This is the perfect opportunity to look back upon your intention board from January 1st, and make sure you’re staying true to your journey.

Your Challenge: Show Up Consistently

This week, focus on returning to your one aligned action, whatever it may be, without waiting for perfection.

Try these:

  • Notice each time you show up: Even small attempts count. Observe the energy, focus, or clarity they generate.
  • Let go of external judgment: Apply the Let Them Theory – let others doubt, judge, or misunderstand your actions. Your responsibility is to yourself.
  • Reflect daily: Take a minute at the end of each day to acknowledge your progress, no matter how small. You are your biggest supporter.
  • Anchor to your routine: Attach your aligned action to something you already do automatically, like a coffee break, lunch pause, or winding down at night. Personally, I like to take a few moments for mindfulness meditation before bed, as it allows me to unwind and reconnect with myself as I end the day.

Remember: the process itself is the reward. Showing up consistently, aligned with your values and dreams, creates real momentum — and over time, that momentum transforms habits and builds confidence.

The Coaching Corner: The Momentum Over Perfection Prompt
